Give Turf to a Knocker

Use this workflow when an organizer has cut turf and needs a knocker to load that turf on their phone.

The knocker does not need the full dashboard. They need the Walk App link and the pickup code or barcode for the turf.

Before you start

Make sure the turf exists first:

  1. Go to Voters.
  2. Create or open the voter list you want to canvass.
  3. Use Cut Turf to split the list into walkable turfs.
  4. Save the region and turfs.

If the turf was saved successfully, it will appear under Canvassing > My Turf.

Send the turf to a knocker

  1. Have the knocker open the mobile Walk App:

    https://app.runvotewin.com/walk

  2. In the dashboard, go to Canvassing > My Turf.

  3. Open the region that contains the turf.

  4. Find the turf row you want to give out. The row shows the turf name, the turf code, and, when available, the secure pickup code.

  5. Optional: use Assign canvasser... on the turf row to attach the knocker to that turf in the dashboard.

  6. Click the turf row to open the turf preview.

  7. Copy the pickup code or show the knocker the PWA pickup barcode in the turf preview.

  8. The knocker should enter their name in the Walk App, tap Download a New List, then either scan the barcode or type the pickup code.

  9. After the turf loads, the knocker can start working doors from the phone.

What code should you share?

Share the pickup code or the PWA pickup barcode when the knocker is using their own phone.

You may also see a regular turf code, such as TXAS4US66-AAA001. That code identifies the turf inside the campaign workspace. The pickup code is the safer code to send to a knocker because it is generated for mobile pickup.

What the knocker does in the Walk App

  1. Open https://app.runvotewin.com/walk on a phone.
  2. Enter their name.
  3. Tap Download a New List.
  4. Scan the barcode or type the pickup code.
  5. Tap Load this turf.
  6. Allow location access if the campaign wants route auditing in Knock Auditor.
  7. Knock doors and update each voter or household status as they go.

A door is considered knocked when the knocker changes the voter status in the mobile app. Those status changes are what the Knock Auditor uses to line up the route replay with actual door activity.

After the walk

Use Knock Auditor to review the route and door activity. The replay starts at the first mobile door status change and stops at the last door change or after a 30-minute idle window without another knock.

If a knocker cannot load the turf, check these items:

  • They are using the Walk App link, not the dashboard link.
  • They typed the pickup code exactly as shown.
  • The turf preview shows a pickup code or barcode.
  • The phone has a data connection when loading the turf.
  • The knocker entered their name before loading the turf.
